Sydney Opera House

As seen from harbour cruise
The last time I was in Sydney there was no Opera House. It is generally assumed that it's been a landmark here forever but it wasn't really opened until October 1973.

Not that I would remember much of anything during my last (and first) visit here because I was still sitting in my own waste at the time and unable to communicate this very effectively.

And as I have no real family or friendship ties here I previously had little desire to travel 4,500 kms across this vast country just to visit the city of my birth.

Because my stay was quite a brief one I did not get a true feel for this vast Pacific-rim city. In fact, my visit coincided with the 2007 APEC Summit so there were some travel restrictions in place at the time.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Probably my favourite part of Sydney was the enormous harbour and taking a cruise along the breadth and width of it's voluminous waterways was a big highlight for me.

I enjoy being on or around water at the best of times but to see some really spectacular landmarks such as the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge from Darling Harbour made the cruise a truly memorable one for me.

Luna Park

And for the young or the still young at heart, there's some fun and frivolity to be found at Luna Park which has been a part of the local landscape since way back in the 1930's.

This showground would have borne witness to vast changes around this harbour city over the convening decades.

Some great tips here - wish I'd known more about Luna Park before we went to Sydney as we would definitely have gone! And I've played that food- photographing game with non VT-ers too - it always bewilders them ;)
