Hokkaido Icecream - Singapore

Hokkaido Icecream

Azabu Sabo: Hokkaido Icecream

After the sky works display and meal at Marina Square Food Court, jenaikes suggested that we stroll over to Azabu Sabo for some icecreams.

Neither the kids nor myself needed to have our arms twisted for this treat!

So we walked the short distance to the Marina Square outlet.

Favorite Dish: I tried the green tea icecream and chewy dumpling with red bean paste. Simply delicious (and filling too!).

Clarke Quay: Riverside Indonesian Restaurant Riverside Indonesian Restaurant Review

A fantastic location right near the river with great views of Clarke Quay if you choose to dine alfresco.

But if the heat and humidity is too much and you prefer the airconditioning you can also dine indoors.

On the menu are tasty Indonesian combination sets which include chicken and fish dishes.

Favorite Dish: Charcoal BBQ Combination (not spicy) - there's something for everyone with this set.

Clarke Quay - Singapore

Clarke Quay

Clarke Quay: Ambience with a view Clarke Quay Review

This is just a general tip to visit Clarke Quay for dinner. There are heaps of great restaurants to try here.

Check out their menu at the entrance before making a reservation which is recommended as Clarke Quay is a popular spot with locals and tourists alike.

After dinner take a bumboat ride on the river or try the reverse bungy if you have the intestinal fortitude for it.

Chicken bao - Singapore

Chicken bao

All over the island: Boa bun

A bao is a type of steamed, filled bun but there are many variations with the type of fillings and preparations.

They can be filled with meats like chicken or pork but also with vegetarian fillings. It is often eaten for breakfast.

My favourites are the charsiu bao which is filled with char siu barbecued pork and the doushabao which is filled with a sweet red bean paste.

I love 'em as a snack at any time and not always one at a time!

Avacado juice - Singapore

Avacado juice

All over the island: Fruit 'n' juices

All along the many streets and walkways of Singapore you can always find many fruit stalls selling various kinds of local fruits.

As a fruit lover I often stop at these stalls for a freshly squeezed fruit juice where I can find the best selection of fresh, mouthwatering, tasty tropical fruits.

Favorite Dish: My favourite fruit juices are pineapple, watermelon or soursop.

While the best tropical fruits to eat are pawpaw with a squeeze of lime, mango or mangosteen.

Simply delicious!

Zam Zam: Top roti prata

Zam Zam is one of the best roti prata places found in Singapore and you can watch skilful murtabak makers at work.

Murtabak is like a prata stuffed with ground mutton, chopped onions, egg and is dipped into a curry sauce.

There were five people and several cameras but for some reason no pictures were taken!

Favorite Dish: We went to Zam Zam's after our claypot chicken at the Golden Mile Food Court for drinks.

We had teh tarik, kopi and the kids had cool drinks.

Ron Guang BBQ Seafood - Singapore

Ron Guang BBQ Seafood

Rong Guang BBQ Seafood: BBQ in the suburbs

Alexander Village is like most food centres and divided into three parts, the right, centre and left.

When most of the tables on one side of the food centre are eating from a particular stall, you know that it is exceptional and Rong Guang BBQ Seafood certainly is that.

Favorite Dish: Locals just love their BBQ seafood and the sambal chilli stingray is quite spicy but not overly so.

The cereal prawns were crisp and crunchy and the chilli squid rings were chewy yet tender.

This is a seafood lovers must try before you die!

Food, glorious food - Singapore

Food, glorious food

Food Republic: Old Chinese style

VivoCity is (at the moment) the newest shopping mall and it is located next to Harbourfront with a great view over to Sentosa Island.

Inside this huge mall there are many shops and restaurants. At the top floor you will find the Food Republic which is designed in the old chinese style with narrow streets full of interesting foods to try.

Favorite Dish: The food here is probably more expensive than at the hawker centres but not overly priced. Given the location and ambience it was well worth it.

I enjoyed some steamed bao buns filled with red bean paste and washed down with freshly squeezed pineapple juice.

Char siew - Singapore

Char siew

Marina Food Court: Great viewing deck

The best thing about this food court is the great alfresco dining with impressive views that overlook the Marina Bay, a bit of the Marina promenade, the whole of the Esplanade and the grassland next to the East Coast Expressway near the flyover.

It was also a sensational spot to take in a fireworks display which was in preparation for Singapore's National Day on August the 9th. Although it was only a practise run, it was still a spectacular display.

A big thanks goes to imstress for organising this because I wouldn't known that this would be such a great spot to watch the sky show. We were also joined by jenaikes.

Favorite Dish: Char siew are long strips of seasoned boneless pork that are skewered with long forks and placed in a covered oven or over a fire.

The porkis seasoned with a mixture of honey, five-spice powder, fermented tofu, soy sauce, hoisin sauce and rice wine. The seasoning turns the outside layer of meat dark red with a shiny glaze.

This pork is served with white rice and drizzled with dark soy sauce. Absolutely delicious and only S$3.50 for a serve!

Komala Vila - Singapore

Komala Vila

Komala Vilas Restaurant: Sweet treats

Established in 29th May 1947, Komala Vilas is a typical South Indian Restaurant serving authentic Indian banana leaf food.

For breakfast we had poori served with potato and chenna masala curry. Poori is a deep-fried puffed bread, generally prepared from wheat flour.

An Indian meal is never complete without desserts and at Komala Vilas, there is a delightful array of sweets from all parts of India to choose from.

Yes, you'll have to have them all all pulled out after Indian sweets which rely heavily on sugar and condensed milk.
