The main reason for me to go to Vietnam was to go to Ha Long Bay. Heard many things about it and saw several of its pictures. And it really proved me the fact why it's become one of Unesco World Heritage sites.
We bought a night trip on a boat and another night on Cat Ba Island. The Chinese Junk was actually pretty nice with an own decent room and a shower . |
So we were off to Ha Long. It was very stunning with all these seascapes. The water was still and it really gave me a peace of mind. After cruising pass hundreds of islets, every boat had to stop to see the caves. For someone who lives in Thailand and has seen enough caves, I didnt find it interesting. For all I thought was to get back in the Chinese Junk, continue the cruise. Then it was time for kayaking. It was the highlight of my trip to kayak in such a scene like Ha Long. Although you would see some dirty spots and a few bottles of whatever floating, it might ruin your mood a little bit, you would get pass it and enjoy the amazing views along the way. |
Cat Ba Island was a bit boring. There are 2 (small) beaches. Also, at the time, there were quite a few projects going on so it looked like the island was underconstruction. I bet if you go there in like 5 years, it would look so much different in a touristy way. The nightlife there was kinda dull. All bars were rather quiet. Maybe September is just not a high season. Anyway, my suggestion for Ha Long , at least we wish we could have done it this way, is to take 2 nights on a boat. Disregard the island. But if you're still tempted to go to Cat Ba, then you may have a quiet time relaxing on the beaches, go to the national park, or just rent a motorbike to check out other areas of the Island. |
