Liverpool is one of the larger cities in the UK. Located on the wide estuary of the River Mersey it remains one the UKs major ports. Voted European City of Culture 2008, the city still seemed to be getting ready for the event, as its centre was in various stages of repair and disrepair! Beatle-memorabilia, football mania and grand edifices from bygone prosperity pervade the inner city. However this is closely surrounded by row upon road of dilapidated estates and a deprived populace. Liverpool felt like two worlds apart, striving and struggling at the same time. Nevertheless the overall charm of the city strongly survives within its proud ‘scouser-soul.’ |
|  | Awesome Architectural Ages The best architectural treat is to walk from St George’s Hall in the centre down Dale Street, along Castle Street and eventually ending up on the Strand near the ‘Three Graces’ near Albert Dock. However just wondering thru the city centre you will be struck by the relatively wide street scenes and astonishingly grand facades, that fuels Liverpool's chique couture. |
| | Loathsome Living Lanes The shear contrast between the civil centre grandeur and the surrounding inner city districts are stark. It gives Liverpool an edgy feel with loaclities that are worlds apart. Indeed its dramamtic past (1880s) and rapid decline (1980s), a hundred years apart, promotes this divivsion.
