"Suzhou - Ancient city with modern outlook" Suzhou by Ujamaflip

Suzhou is a large city with a population of just under 6 million people. It is situated in the south of Jiangsu Province, in the middle of the Yangtze Delta. The city was created in 514BC, but wasn`t named Suzhou until 581AD, during the Sui dynasty.

I was lucky enough to travel to Suzhou with work. Whilst there I was well entertained by my fellow colleagues visiting a few of the many attractions located around the city. Generally the people are friendly and inviting.

Suzhou really is a city of opposites, along side the ancient townships sit new skyscrapers. Famed for silk and pearls, these can still be bought at excellent prices from various outlets in the city.

In the main city Suzhou is overtaken by the thriving Chinese economy. New roads are being built at an amazing rate, with the city changing constantly. The town centre is always packed and has a high number of shops and restaurants to choose from.

Suzhou is full of canals, especially in the old villiage, Tong Li. The canals themselves are full of boats, a thriving network of activity.
