If you decide to go to Central Asia, be sure to check out Samarkand. It's boasts probably the most beautiful square in the East - Registan, with three magnificent madrassahs, as well as the tombs of Timur and other rulers of this land. There is not so much to see, so one day is enough, but still try to see it in the evening - you will be stunned by the sights of the old buildings all lit up. Another thing that impressed me even more - the hill with all the mausaleums from eleventh century onwards that are now being restored and look very impressive. |
