Madayaw Davao!

The Land of Promise

Durian Republic
Right under the watchful gaze of the country's highest dormant volcano, the 2, 954 meter Mt. Apo, is sourthern Philippines main hub for commerce and industry, Davao City.

Unlike the other parts of the Philippines. Particularly places in Luzon and Visayas, Davao doesn't have typhoons. We do get strings of rainy days in the rainy season, but never the blunt of harsh typhoons. And of course the nice tropical temperature is assured the whole year through.

Blessed with the abundance of both water and land, Davao's topography is a balance of the two. With Samal island on it's side, all with it's coral-rich, mirror clear waters, for water activities like diving, snorkeling or even cross island swimming from mainland Davao to Samal itself. On the other side, one may enjoy the lush forest and rolling mountains and hills of Davao and its surrounding areas, activities may vary from as simple as hiking, white water rafting, repelling or anything simple as relaxing and enjoying nature itself in the various garden sites and resorts in the city.

Beauty or Beast ?

This gigantic replica of Michaelangelo's famous piece of art has been the object of controversy in this bustling prime city of Mindanao, south of the Philippines.

Now, and what's the hoo-haa all about? Apparently some members of the local congress has been against the presence of this statue. The reasons given were A). It has been put up in public land b.) It is near a motel C.) It is NAKED!

To be honest i don't know if i'd laugh or cry reading the reports on local newspapers regarding the issues raised against this statue.

To be honest, I think the statue itself is beautiful and is an expression of art. Here are my counterviews....A.On public land? well that is a technical matter, i think they could easily deal with that. B. )They said the statue is deliberately put up near a motel, a place of tryst, of forbidden lovers to meet and consummate their love. And it promotes sexual thoughts for people looking at it!! ,therefore, it's Commercialism in the form of ART!..........To each his own....not all people thinks as maliciously as they do. I'm sure people in this city are well educated and sensible enough to know what's immoral and what's not, what is being sensible and what is just plainly being ignorant C.) For the mere fact that its all in its NAKED glory!( ah, uhmm, it's supposed to be D-A-V-I-D!), some of them even propose to make him wear some kind of pants!....hmmmmm, well....i'm in stitches! People have mixed views on this. The conservative ones, says that it is not good for children to see this, while the others would say, that there's nothin wrong with it,as it just looks exactly what any normal man would look like, without a tinge of malice in their voices

So is it a beauty for the eyes or is it a beast to the mind?

Each to their own.....i think in this case there is a thin line between malice, ignorance and just plainly being ridiculous....or is there a specific term for that ? BUREAUCRACY / POLITICS.
