Saving the best for last? | View from the tower of Olympic Stadium |
We had taken the ferry from Tallinn, Estonia to Helsinki more than a week earlier, but had immediately left town aboard bus to the Lakelands area, thereby saving Finland's capital city for last on our trip. We are glad to report that Helsinki's cool vibe and attractions held their own against Tallinn's beautiful Old Town and Eastern Finland's enchanting nature.
We arrived in Helsinki amid the city's "Helsinki Day" festivities and the fun never stopped! Highlights include the city's charming architecture (no building is more than 12 stories high), the must-see Suomenlinna fortress city and Seurasaari Open-Air Museum and, on a rainy day, the Serena indoor water park (in Espoo). We ended the trip on a high note when some friendly Finns decided to take us out on a night to Tavastia, Helsinki's top rock club. |
