"HERBERSTEIN - castle and zoo" Herberstein by coccinella169

Herberstein Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 9 photos

Herberstein is only one of the numerous castles at the "Styrian castle road" (Steirische Schlösserstraße) in the south of Austria. It is about 135 km from Vienna and 70 km from Graz. Herberstein is easy reachable on highway A 2, exit Gleisdorf (when coming from Graz) or Hartberg (when coming from Vienna). It is a very nice castle, the oldest parts date from the 12th century. You can participate in a guided tour of the castle building (daily at noon, 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m.)

There are very nice historical gardens, a nature reserve ("Feistritzklamm"), the Gironcoli museum and a sculpture park.

Animal Park

This is for me the most interesting part of the castle- the animal park with all kind of eurasian, american, african and australian animals. Most interesting- the cheetahs.
