THROUGH THE MIST - DELVING INTO NEW DELHI

Wonderful building in New Delhi

STIR OF ECHOES

Regal New Delhi - India's Capital City. It's as though you can hear the past murmuring softly around every corner... betraying secrets from the city's proud Mughal lineage, recounting fables from the homes of India's ruling dynasty. All clashing against the din of a throbbing cosmopolitan giant, replete with fashion lounge bars, theme restaurants, sprawling farm-house/ high-rise filled suburbs... I doubt whether cities get any more intriguing than this.

COLD AROUND THE HEART

I just returned from New Delhi a week ago, and I think I chose the best time to visit. The weather was just breathtaking... there was a cold which engulfed the city's residents in a soft embrace. With mornings full of fog, turning even an ordinary encounter into a cherished snapshot. I don't know what it is - a freezing cold morning, a hot cup of coffee, a Marlboro - and everything's just perfect.

SLOW THINGS DOWN

Give yourself some time in this city. Two weeks, at the very least. You can't rush through a city like New Delhi, you've got to let it sights and sounds become a part of you - not something that'll happen on a two-day type visit. Besides, the city's so vast and complex, with so many little gems hidden in its by-lanes and dusty corridors, that you'll regret leaving in a hurry.

Pros:" Hospitable Punjabi people, unbelievable cuisine, unforgettable architecture "
Cons:" Stupid f***ing rickshaw-wallahs (all part of the experience, though!)"
In A Nutshell:" New Delhi's just the place for some beautiful new memories "

Great stuff, Siddharth. Delhi is a place with a million nooks and crannies for exploring, isn't it? We visited in October - and I will say this.... I would LOVE to try out the "cold of Delhi". :)
