Banff Avenue: Strolling the avenue

  • Strolling Banff avenue is a great way to spend the afternoon. Be warned it can be quite crowded at times, but if you're a people watcher it's great. The avenue is filled with tons of shopping, from mainstream stores to funky little candy stores. Great coffee shops and places to stop for lunch and beverage - a little bit of urban bliss in the mountains.

    Mountains/Lakes / Falls: Gondola Ride
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Gondola ride up Sulpher Mountain is a great way to get a wonderful view of the vista from high above with out the hiking. There is a path up Sulpher Mountain for those of you wanting to experience the true mountaineering experience and for the rest of us there is the Gondola. About a 15 min ride it allows views of the Banff townsite, Banff Springs and the Rimrock. The cost is around 22 per person and one car fits four people.

    Mountains/Lakes / Falls: Hiking
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are so many great hikes in the Banff/Canmore area. The one I did last week was call Ha Ling or the Beehive. It took me around 2 and a half hours, at a steady pace. Once above the tree line the going gets a little tougher but the view is well worth it. Once at the top you will be treated to the whole of Canmore, remember to pack a pinic. Follow it up by a beer in town at the Grizzly Paw, on the patio you can gaze up at the beehive and recount your adventures!

Yikes...I get an adrenaline rush just thinking about that gondola ride. I'd probably take it despite more fear of heights! Hope your birthday is magical.
