I'd forgotten how much I LOVE this site...

by YolandaC - last update: Jan 24, 2008

Jan - St. Louis, Nashville and Memphis. Soulful music and food.

Sept - Road trip. B.C, Montana, Washington, Idaho. Beautiful fall colours

Aug - New York. Great eats, sultry heat.

June - Shuswap - central BC

April - road trip down the Pacific Coast Highway

Feb - L.A. and the Price is Right - corny, I know.

New Years Eve - Cozumel.

Dec 2006 - Tango in Argentina.

Sept 2006 - Celebrating my birthday in Kauai!!

Aug 2006 - Grand Prairie, a northern albertan town. The whole family together for the first time in three years for the wedding of my neice.

July 2006 - Two weeks in Lima volunteering with my fifteen year old in a pre-school. Check out Cross Cultural Solutions - Wonderful!

July 2006 - Road trip to Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle. Tons of tunes, snacks & can't forget the sunglasses and flip-flops!

May 2006 - Belize. Spent another amazing week in the land of late nights & early mornings, at least for me. Spent a night in Caye Caulker, my first time and not my last. A couple days in Placencia with an excursion to Monkey River and much time spent at Jay Birds. Two nights in San Ignacio enjoying the Mayan ruins and beautiful countryside.

April 2006 - Orlando with the kids. To be honest I wasn't looking forward to this trip, actually I was dreading it, but I was surprised. Disney World brought out the lost kid in me and once I returned to my adult ways we just high tailed to either the pool or took the short drive to the beach.

Mar 2006 - Vegas. What is there left to say about Vegas. Nothing really, because we all know "what happens in vegas stays...

Jan 2006 - London, France, Monte Carlo and Morocco. 18 days of fantastic travel, from the experience of furs, kisses on the cheeks and tiny dogs in Nice, the errie flawlessness of Monte Carlo and the vibrant, raw, richness of Morocco. Many stories to tell.

Nov 2005 - After a week in Cuba basking in the beautiful sun Canada's climate feels almost painful! We spent three days in Havana taking in the vibrant culture and then retired to the beaches of Varadaro, moving only to change tanning sides or gather another cool drink.

Sept 2005 - Just back from NYC and what a great trip!! My feet are full of blisters but it was worth every agonizing step! My digital gave out so my photo's are all the old fashion kind *sigh*. The trip was fantastic - you can't help but feel alive, like you're smack dab in the middle of the world.

Aug 2005 - One week on the ocean outside of Vancouver, bookended with a great roadtrip through the beautiful valleys and mountains of both British Columbia and Alberta.

May 2005 - We have returned from out fourth trip to Belize. The weather was just as we like it hot, hot, hot. Prep work has begun for our next trip first to Vancouver and then NYC, followed by Victoria, San Fran and then some place hot and exotic!

Feb 2005 - Dominican Repubic. Fast escape from the cold to the wonderful beaches of the Dominican.

Jan 2005 - Starting off the year with a quick trip to San Fran for some sea air.

I have grown to enjoy the feeling of returning to a place and discovering a whole new layer not previously exposed, somethings only come to the surfuce with time and no amount of forcing will show you.

I look forward to returning to a place that stills feel exotic and remote but somehow familiar, a tangible indication of growth.

One of the reasons I travel is to not only experience and witness places far from home and every day existence, but to be able to return and feel home once again. Sometimes it's difficult to see what's right beneath your feet, and shifting, if only for a moment will remind you where you're from.

Here's a little of where I'm from...

The grand snow dragon

My city of snow

Calgary is a city of winter. We have around three true months of summer and the rest of the months are give and take. Some days the air is crisp, the sky deep blue, frost clings to all things exposed and it seems magical. Other days everything seems gray - the air, sky, snow, even people and magic needs to be found elsewhere...like in the form of a great frost breathing dragon.

One Winter Evening

I spend a lot of time with the people in this picture. Nadja and I have done years of trips together as well as a lot of quality time with the little people.

Nadja and I have been best friends for over twenty years...tons of laughter, tears and things we just try not to talk about anymore. She is one of the people belonging to my *no longer optional* pile.

The little people keep it lively and at times crazy, yet always keep us aware of that oh so fleeting child-like wonder ... up close and personal.
One winter evening
*hello everybody*

Mad dog

This is my pup Mad Dog aka Maddie aka Baby Rug.
This is his dapper look. He is a complex pup full of complex issues. He loves to sun on top of the table when he thinks no one is looking and whenever he gets the chance he will make a mad dash for freedom, though he has little idea where he's going. Kinda reminds me of myself.

My Babies

I know they're not babies anymore and sometimes it's hard to believe how grown up they seem - sometimes I can't believe how much they still act like 3 year olds. I had my kids young and wouldn't have it any other way - we have a great time exploring the world together

Baretootsies

Naked feet are the way to go. Most moments my feet find themselves exposed to the elements - has always been this way and most likely always will. Summer, winter, spring and fall. I admit to covering them in boots during the winter, yet only for trips outdoors and flip flops during the summer, once again only for trips outdoors, but rarely are they smoothered in the fabric of socks. I like to feel close to the ground.
