I just loved having a few drinks, relaxing by the hotel pool and relaxing by the beach, although the beach is not as nice as many I've seen, it's still OK. A great place to have loads of fun and cheaper than Phuket.
If you're going to Bangkok only, I suggest take the 2 hour trip south-east to Pattaya. At least there is a beach to enjoy. You can negotiate for one of those more "luxurious" taxis (usually in a grey colour) to take you there from Bangkok for about 1,800 baht (with all tolls taken care of). With the new airport at Bangkok being closer to Pattaya, you may even just hop off the place and head straight there! I'd say it would take around 1.5 hours or so.
Pattaya offers everything that Bangkok does... plus it has a beach. There are penty of shopping opportunities, nightlife, restaurants, resorts, etc.
The beach is nice although you get many people wanting to sell you something every few minutes which after a while can get a little annoying. The water is very warm but not as clean as Phuket for instance.
It costs 30 baht for a deckchair in Pattaya... in Phuket, 50 baht.
- Pros:Fun city with a beach
- Cons:Beach not as ideal as Koh Samet or Phuket
- In a nutshell:Beach, shopping and nightlife all here!

Good page on Pattaya, Joe. Eating on the beach!-cool. I think that I would not enjoy that Walking Street, though.I am sure many do.

Great tips, Joe! I've been considering a trip to Pattaya while I'm in Bangkok - but a lack of time will probably prevent it this time! Petra is amazing - next time you're in the northern hemisphere, I'd strongly recommend a visit there!
Pattaya seems like a nice place to laze around.
