Start out from the beautiful square in from of the Basilica, then do the tour inside (no need for a guide, just walk arond and watch the details! :), and do_not miss the visit to the cupola!! If you are facing the entrance, you will find the stairs on the right hand side of the main door. There is also an elevator going up. The cupola offers a great view of the Pest side (including the Parlament, and the old stock exchange building on Szabadság tér, which is now the main building of the Hungarian National TV). You can also see the Buda side landmarks from a very diferent point of view. It's worth, that's it! :) Prices: Whole tour including chuch, treasury, "Saint Right" - the hand of our 1st King St Stephan and the cupola - 1500 Ft, starting tours: 9:30, 11:00, 14:00, 15:30 on weekdays, Saturday: 9:30, Sunday: 15:30, but you can simply enter the chuch or the cupola any time until 18:00 PM (price of the cupola alone is around 400 Ft).

If you visit Budapest, don't be satisfied with seeing just the landmarks! Watch the details as well! :) A couple of years ago, I myself had to realize that Budapest is full of beautiful architectural details. The old buildings in the city are full of them! Paintings, old sculptures on the walls, old shop or factory names written on the houses...lots of them! Just turn your head up and watch out for them, and you will know what I'm talking about! :) ps.: Will be posting some pics about details in the albums section soon!

The bridges of Budapest connect the 2 parts of the city: Buda and Pest. They are sort of the main pillars of the traffic of Budapest, closing down one of them means chaos in the city :)

Mai Mano was a great (and by the way royal...)photographer and photojournalist of his time. The builidng was built on his order in 1894 and it was used by various families and associations during the decades. The Hungarian House of Photography, hosted in the Mai Mano House, is in Nagymezo utca, the so called "Budapest Broadway"). The Hungarian Photography Foundation bought out the tennants of the building and so the Mai Mano Gallery opened in 1995 and later the House of Hungarian Photography in 1999. The building houses various photography expositions and also has a library and a bookshop.

Anonymus magister was a historian, who wrote the first book about hungarian history in latin. The book, called "Gesta Hungarorum" is known from a copy made in the 13th century. The artist era, age, name and the reliability of it's writing is still base of debates among historians.

Things To Do: Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music

The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music was founded in 1875, the building itself was ready in 1907. It's another good example of secessionist buildings, designed by Floris Korb and Kalman Giergl. The bronze statue of Ferenc Liszt is the work of Alajos Strobl, famous sculptor of his time. The first president of the institution was Ferenc Liszt itself, who took a great part in the founding as well, teaching the students in his own appartment in teh beginning. The first director of the Academy was Ferenc Erkel, composer of the music of the Hungarian national anthem.
