You would never find this little restaurant just by walking along...it's hiding in a street on the Buda side of Budapest, there is no big portal for it, and actually inside it's also quite simple (no big posters or plants, only simple wooden chairs and tables) ...but the people and the food is amazing! :)

No wonder every time I'm there, most of the people are actually japanese expats :)

Favorite Dish: Just try it all, or let the waiter recommend you something!

Menu's are a really good value and they include the miso soup as well!

However this is not a sushi restaurant, they are offering the traditional japanese home-made food items!

Gerbeaud is a world famous pastry shop in the very heart of Budapest, on Vörösmarty square.

The café was founded by Henrik Kugler in 1858 and expanded by its later owner, Emil Gerbeaud. The building was renovated in 1997, make sure to go inside (even if you decide that sitting outside is nicer :)and see the magnificent chandeliers and the cakes of course!

Favorite Dish: All the pastry is good, try Dobos cake (swwet)and Sajtos Pogácsa (salty) as well, and finish it with an ice cream! :)

Fatal Restaurant: Great food in the center
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Fatál

Fatál (not to be mistaken by the femme fatale, since "fatál" is a hungarian word meaning "wooden plate") is a place with great atmosphere and good Hungarian and international cuisine. Prices are a bit higher then average, but they are reasonable for the quality you get.

The place is open from 11:30 AM until 2:00 AM.

Favorite Dish: Don't know just try some Hungarian thing :)

Szeraj: Got hungry during the night?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Szeraj

Szeraj is the most popular Turkish Deli in Budapest. Whenever you might go there it will be crowded.

Since it's almost non-stop (9 am to 4 or 5 am), it's ideal after a party which got you hungry! :)

    It's self-service and has good indoor and outdoor seating. (300 - 1 100 HUF)

Favorite Dish: Kebab above all, but you can try other things as well.

And if you really like sweets, finish with a Baklava!

It's called Café, I said "pub" for the Restaurant theme, but in fact it's a bar! :)

If you want to spend some time talikng to a friend with easy music (most of the time at least - the place was originally named after the Acid Jazz group Incognito), this might be a good choice.

They have all kinds of drinks and make nice cocktails as well.

Open from 12 until 24 every day.

Favorite Dish: Last time I just had a virgin Mai Tai and it was great :)

    Gundel: Tradition and excellence
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Gundel

The first thing most of the people in Budapest would say to you if you ask for a classic restaurant would be "'Gundel".

The history of the restaurant goes back to 150 years. The biggest name in his history might be Gundel Karoly, who opened the restaurant in the place where it is now, in 1910. In hi stime the restaurant (and him :) became world famous.

Gundel was bought by George Lang and Ronald S. Lauder in 1991, and they started to rebuild the original respect of the place.

The cuisine is based on the traditional hungarian dishes, but it also offers european and international "artworks". :)

Favorite Dish: You can't really go wrong there...:)
Try the sweet "Gundel palacsinta" (Gundel pancake)!

Cactus Juice Pub & Restaurant: Good international cuisine and funky beats

  • Budapest Cactus Juice Pub & Restaurant
  • Entrance of Cactus Juice from Jokai

  • by MedioLatino

  • Restaurant Name: Cactus Juice Pub & Restaurant

Cactus Juice on Jokai square is a reliable place offering always a good quality in food and in party as well. The Wild West atmosphere is just the cover, the place is not a rough one at all. :)

I wouldn't say it's "haute couture" in cuisine, but they have excellent dishes on the menu.

And after that in the evenings (mostly only during the weekend...well maybe starting from Thursday,) there are good parties with funky music (entrance is 1000 HUF - 4 EUR as far as I remember, but this is consumable).

Food prices are a little bit above average (still moderate!) but it's worth it. :)

Favorite Dish: Some days back I had beef filled with some cheese and spices and it was really good! :)

Jegbufe: Jegbufe (Ice-buffet) - cakes and continuity

  • Budapest - Portal of Jegbufe on Ferenciek tere
  • Portal of Jegbufe on Ferenciek tere
  • by MedioLatino
  • Send Photo to a Friend
  • Restaurant Name: Jegbufe

The Jegbufe was opened by Sandor Flaschner more then 50 years ago and in the rush going on around it, it's almost the only place which gives the feel of continuity. It's just as it was ever. You have to order at the desk, pay at the cashiers and then go back with the receipt to pick up your stuff which at the end you can eat and rink standing in the window watching the life going on outside.

Jegbufe is a snack-bar, pastry shop, cofeehouse and ice-cream shop in one! And it's in the very heart of the city, offering a view on the traffic going to and coming from the Elisabeth Bridge, and the people changing means of transport on the square.

Don't go there if you are watching for excellence, this place is for a quick snack and to get the air of the past 50 years.
