The Wonder of Morocco

by Sambawalk - last update: May 30, 2008

Morocco is a country full of contrasting images, colourful sights, strange smells and exotic experiences. I visited Morocco in March 2006 and my itinerary was as follows:

Singapore -> Casablanca via Dubai (US$900)
Casablanca -> Rabat (by train Dh55, 2 hours)
Rabat -> Meknes (by train Dh56, 2.5 hous)
Meknes -> Fes (by train Dh17, 1 hour)
Fes -> Marrakesh via Azrou and Beni Mellal (by bus Dh130, 10 hours)
Marrakesh -> Ourika Valley 3 day trekking trip (US$100)
Marrakesh -> Essaouira (by bus Dh60, 3 hours)
Marrakesh -> Calsablanca (by train, Dh75, 3 hours)

I travelled on budget and stayed in one star hotel or Raid with shared facilities. The highlights of the trips include the visit of historical sites in Meknes and Fes, trekking in Ourika Valley and eating the local dishes of Tajine and Couscous.

Marrakesh

Your trip to Marrakesh is not complete without visiting Djemma el Fna. Your travel guide book tells you all actions and activities that they have here in the square. Mostly I would say virtually everything. Be careful your your personal belongings and touts during the day and particularly at night.

Trekking in Ourika Valley - Altas Mountain

I went for a 3 day trekking trip in Ourika Valley - Altas Mountain, trekking from village to village and stayed with two different local Moroccan families for 2 nites to understand their culture, eat their local food and drink and atay (mint tea), chat with the children, and most of all, enjoy the spendid snow capped altas mountain range.
