| Bomb blast in Dabah - 25 Apr 2006 |
I visited Egypt in April-May 2006. My itinerary was as follows: Bahrain -> Cario (Gulf Air US$???) Cario -> Aswan (overnight sleeper train US$53/pax) Aswan -> Abu Simbel, Temple of Philae, High Dam (day tour minibus 60 EGP/pax) Aswan -> Luxor (1st class train 26 EGP) Luxor -> Hurghada (Day bus 6 hours 25 EGP) Hurghada -> Sharm el-Sheikh (high speed ferry US$45/pax) Sharm el-Sheikh -> Dahab (minibus 30 EGP) Dahab -> Mt. Sinai (sunrise) and St Katherines monastery (minibus transport return 55 EGP) Dahab -> Cario (minibus 100 EGP) Cario -> Alexandria (day trip by 1st class train 34 EGP/pax/one way) I travelled on budget and stayed in one star hotel without 5 star cruise on Nile. (despite I travelled the luxury sleeper train for US$53!) The highlights of the trips were to see one of the ancient wonders of the world, dive in the renowning red sea, sight the site of the deadly bomb blast in Dahab on 25 April 2006. My general impression on this trip is that Egyptians are greedy, cunning, and unfriendly. Among all the other Middle Eastern Arab countries, namely Morocco, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, UAE and Bahrain, that I have visited, I personally rank Egypt to be the worst country I ever visited. It is quite sadden to have such feeling and I personally, again, feel that this is the country that I would visit only once and for all, in my life time. I like to thank many VTers' information and travel tips to smoothen my trip in order to avoid unnecessary hassles. In particular, I like to express big thanks to Malena for her tips provided to me before and during my trip to Egypt. I hope you enjoy my tips and pics. Happy travelling. |
| Reading LP guide in Medinat Habu |
| | Medinat Habu is one of my favourite temple in the Luxor West Bank. It is quiet and I think it is also a good place to have a short nap after a busy morning in other sites. You can find many good spots for "nap". hehe. |
| The Sphinx & Great Pyramid of Khufu |
| | The guide book says that seeing the Sphinx is like meeting a TV personality in the flesh - always smaller than had been imagined. In my opinion, I agreed. It does not actually look as big or giant as I thought. |
