Wadi Rum - My dream world

by Sambawalk - last update: Feb 12, 2005

Wadi Rum offers some of the most extraordinary sesert scenery you'll ever see, and it is a definite highlight of any visit to Jordon. In my opinion, it is comparable to the Monument national park in the southwest of U.S.A.

The region of Wadi Rum is actually a series of valleys about 2 KM wide streaching north to south for about 130 KM. You can enjoy extraordinary scenery and silent nights under a stunning blanet of stars, which I did. What a night!

I met up four other "travellers" in Petra and we decided to take the 1 day 1 night "package" tour. We start in the village and drive first to Lawrence's Spring and then to the sand dunes in Wadi Um Ishrin where you can also see some Nabatean inscriptions. We continue, visiting "Lawrence's House" from where there are some great views, and then to the Barragh Canyon. Here we have lunch. In the afternoon we drive to where we have a view up the mountain of the bridge on Jebel Burdah, and then to Um Fruth Bridge and Khazali Canyon.

From there to the "sunset place" to watch the sunset and to appreciate the beauty of the changing colours of the landscape. Here we have supper, enjoy the evening and the stars and stay to sleep.

Price : 35JD per person for 2 people, 30JD/person for 3 people and 25JD/person for 4 people or more. This price includes everything, the jeep, the guide, all meals, night entertainment, and mattresses and blankets for sleeping.

Thr trip covered 80% of areas that you can see from the map of Wadi Rum in the Lonely Planet Guide. When you see various sections and pics, you can see how enjoyable we are!

Don't worry! This is the extra miles that our Bedouin manager who took us from Rum village to the highway where we could catch the minibus to Aqaba. They are efficient. Just one mobile phone call and the assistance will be here in a short while. They can fixe the problem within 15 minutes.
