Aleppo is Syria's 2nd largest city. It is a city of commerce and since Roman times, it has been an important trading centre between Asia and Europe.

Among other sight-seeing points, the Great Mosque in Aleppo is a must see and should not be missed.

The Great Mosque and the prayer hall were under renovation in Nov 2004. The Mosque watcher was nice enough to open the door and let me in at night. In addition, he showed me around, including the prayer hall. I took some great pics of what they were renovating inside the prayer hall. An exclusive evening visit to was rewarding. Rising up on a high mound at the eastern end of the souqs, the Citadel dominates the city and was long the heart of its defenses. It offers impressive views of the city and surrounding areas. What you can see from the side is the eight arches which support a stepped bridge on the south side of the Citadel. Admission SP150.
