Legendary Superstition Mountains

Weavers' Needle of probably the most searched-for-gold mountain in the Southwest.

Legends say, it hosts a huge gold mine - and we really don't know if legends tell the truth or not.

Goldfield - explore a ghosttown of old miners' day

Goldfield has been a gold miners' town in the old days of late 19th century.
Abandoned since long, however kept as a museum.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:mystery and superstition - the Gold Rush
  • Cons:don't get to believe the legends - don't start digging for Dutchman's gold ;-)

how appropriately named- superstition mountains etc. looks like a neat place to explore, some good hiking in such landscapes. You did a nice job showing the wilderness of it, especially for me i noticed the photo of the little red flower closeup. sunsets must have been breathtaking!

i saw something similar in Argentina (San Juan province and the north of the country, Salta etc)but the resemblance to the american southwest was almost uncanny in Cuyo (San Juan, valle de la luna)

I was never that up in Argentina's north, only in Patagonia. But I think I remember to have seen photos.

Imagine panning for gold and you actually found a nugget. How cool would that be, esp at today's gold prices.

If the legend is about a Dutchman's gold... it's probably been found and spent a long time ago ;~)

I enjoyed my hikes to Apache Junction too. A remote hike place that I enjoyed that not many foreigners will visit is Busteni RO.

Love the name...I take it you didn't find any gold?? I would like to explore more of the old mining towns...ghost towns. They seem like the "real" old west ... rather than the new highways and chain stores that are sprouting everywhere.
