Baroque France in Schwetzingen - The Castle

by Trekki - last update: Oct 25, 2006

Schwetzingen, a little town west of famous Heidelberg, has a special gem, which is easily missed in the touristic rushes to Heidelberg.

I was here very often, while living in Mannheim - however it is still a favourite destination for me, mainly in spring, when the gardens are in full bloom and the castle complex has this special atmosphere.

The castle was summer residence of Grand Duke Carl Theodor (1724-1799), and designed with a wonderful baroque garden, which is said to be one of the most beautiful gardens of this type in Europe.

My page here will be slowly built up, so please be patient. It is not yet spring :-)

Love the tunnel shot in the intro, Ingrid. I guess there is more to Germany than Bavaria, Saxony, and the land of Alt. ;)
