It would have taken a long time for me to ever visit Seligenstadt although it is almost around the corner of where I live. But we recently had an international meeting nearby and my colleague who organized the meeting was nice enough to have planned several interesting evening events. The evening when I was attending the meeting we all went to Seligenstadt for a tour through Glaabs Brewery and it was the first brewery tour I ever attended. However, having followed Richie and Doreen on their tour through US, I had read so much about beer and the huge variety of beer that I felt I had to write this page especially for them. This, even if I haven’t seen anything else of Seligenstadt but the brewery and the restaurant next to it.

But I plan to come back because I met an interesting woman who is organising events and who guided us through the brewery. From what she told me about Seligenstadt it is one of these little cities with beautiful old town centre and half timbered houses and a lot of history.

I believe this is the town you said you wanted to take me to and I said I had been there twice. Yes, this is it. I've been there two times because...there are two breweries and someone in my house likes to eat at breweries with restaurants! But perhaps we should go back on a girls' day so you can go to the glorious garden behind the church and maybe we can eat at a place that isn't a brewery ;-) The Christmas market was small and quaint - a real pleasure. One day I need to write my own page for this lovely town! For now, I like your page very much :-) ~Brenda

What an interesting little page Ingrid :-) Though I should perhaps remind you that Richie is not the ONLY beer-drinker on VT lol - I too would love to try some of these beers, though I have a feeling Malzbier may be too sweet for my taste?

Ingrid, very interesting impressions of both the Glaabs brewery beer and the Malzbier drinks you had as a child! After his long flight across the Atlantic, I hope Richie appreciates that beer you owe him!!

Lovely little page Ingrid! How did you find the taste of Vitamalz after all these years? I can only imagine how long would meeting of Richie and Hedi Schimitt lasts ;)) They would certainly have so much to talk about :))

Great beer page! But 1744 to nowadays should make about 10 generations (at least 8), then why only 5th generation? I hope Malzbier does not taste like Root beer, brrk!

Look forward to taking you up on that beer, Ingrid but not a malzbier. lol But very interesting to hear about its origins. I think I tried one once and it's very popular in SA as you know. Agree that it's not so much like root beer too.
