General Tips: Burano is prepared for wheelchair travellers

Favorite Thing: I was positively surprised to see this device to transport wheelchairs over this bridge in Burano. I alsodid see a lot of them in Venezia. So it seems that Burano is prepared to host also wheelchair handicapped travellers, which is good news. This one I saw at the bridge of Fondamenta Terranova, so it would enable the people to travel also into these charming backstreets.
Vaporettos do have wheelchair service already since some years.

Favorite Thing: Well, the best time to visit Burano….Christine told me to go early, before the masses are coming and overflowing the island. Now this is difficult if you want to go to Torcello and Burano on one day. Where to try and be early then ? Maybe it is better to be early in Torcello, as this island is so special with its Byzantine church and being there early makes it easier to enjoy the contemplative atmosphere there. I was on Burano from around 2 pm until 6 p.m., and the main street was full with people. But on the other hand, it was only the main street – the side streets were empty, only locals walked around there.
Difficult to recommend the best time…. But I’d still say as early as possible (boats leave already at 6 from Venezia), or very late in the day, to catch the magic late afternoon light.

Wow, what an arcobaleno of colored houses! An outstanding page! I feel I prefer by far Burano to Venice! May be we will go to Burano and skip Venice, haha! |
