It didn't take long for me to select my intro photo for Murano - it cannot be any other than this, as it characterises as nothing else what is the most important feature for Murano: the perfect harmony in teamwork between the Maestro and his Adjudante - the right millisecond of adding new molten glass to a workpiece to make holy glass work of Murano.
When thinking back to my recent trip to Venezia, Burano, Torcello and Murano, Murano's glass making was the most fascinating experience I had.
It will take a while to finish this page, as I will write about glass and the making. I spent more than an hour in the museum and read about how this magic material is made, saw the early pieces, the masterpieces and what Murano artists can do with so simple substances as silicium dioxide and some other oxides. But to watch the Maestro and his assistant was the best - whatever the chemists add together and melt - it is the movement, the knowledge of the right moment, what makes Murano what it was and what it is: the centre of the world of holy glass. |
