"Odenwald: enchanting legends and castles" Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald by Trekki

Naturpark Bergstraße-Odenwald is the region in southern Hessen which has been declared nature reserve with emphasis on its geological and "mystical" background. Since 2004 it is listed as Geopark in UNESCO's Global Network of Geoparks. The motto of the Geopark, according to the website is:
?Between Granite and Sandstone ? Continents on the move?
which demonstrates the fascinating place in earth history this region has. It also gives a glimpse of the variety of sights to see and legends to discover. Yes, legends, since this is the part where Siegfried of the Nibelung saga is said to have been murdered.

Christine.j was the first of us VTers who created a page for this part of Germany. She covers a lot the western part, Bergstraße, while I try to cover the forest part, Odenwald.

In case someone wonders where three of the tips already have got stars from although I created this page in March 2011: I have moved them from my Hessen page to my Odenwald page.

All pictures have been taken by me, if not marked otherwise.
Please do not use any of them without my permission.
The same applies for my writings here.

The documented history of our area is only a scratch in the surface compared to what is available in places such as this.

Amazing rock formation with mysterious magnetism! You needn't go to Italy to watch Roman villas, you have them nearby, haha! All the best from snowy Moscow, Ingrid!

What lovely little castles and houses!! :) Would love to walk this fairy tale path! Oh, and the orange-marzipan cake (I guess I'd choose this one too) seems to be enough reason to make a stop in Michelstadt :)

I really like the sound of the fairy-tale walk, and how lovely that people still maintain it :-) And the lemon peel dipped in dark chocolate sounds divine!
