Caraiva's claim to fame, in addition to being a beautiful Bahian coastal town, is its lack of electricity & streets. The roads are of sand, the lights are candles (though generators are used a couple hours each evening) by the citizens' choice, not lack of infrastructure.

It's a great place to walk on the beach, go kayaking in the mangroves, eat (drink?) acai, and dance forro all night long. There are nice pousadas along the beach side, which is much prettier than the river side (Caraiva's an island).
