binjai

binjai fruit can be found in borneo
trees can grow to +100 ft?
takes about 15 years? before bearing any fruits, once a year
unripe fruit is best eaten with belacan and lada padi
ripe fruit is preserved as jaruk binjai and used as dip for ambuyat, with belacan and lada padi added of course!
taste is very sourish, sight is mouth-watering

warning: binjai does not go well with durians, batabuk!

binjai trees usually indicate previous settlement
at least a hundred years ago!

as the trees are hugh, nobody wants to plant them near their houses anymore, takes too much space!

a cousin to binjai is belunu
similar look, less sourish taste

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:ancient fruit
  • Cons:endangered species?
  • In a nutshell:ambuyat without binjai is no ambuyat!

There is no such place called Binjai in Africa. For my point of view, you can find Binjai in Indonesia. Binjai is the capital city of Binjai District in a proviince of North sumatra, indonesia. If it in Africa, where it is located?
