"The Monastery and the Gorge" Cerveny Klastor by evaanna
Cerveny Klastor Travel Guide: 14 reviews and 37 photos
To the east of the Tatras there is another mountain range, not so high but equally beautiful - the Pieniny Mountains. Steep and inaccessible except to expert climbers, it has a few interesting trails where steps have been built to help the hikers. The mountains are part Polish part Slovakian, with the Dunajec River cutting across them, marking the border. The river forms a magnificent gorge here, best viewed from the Polish or Slovakian rafts on their regular trips, which are the main attraction of the region.
Cerveny Klastor or the Red Monastery sits on the Slovakian bank of the Dunajec and a path leads from it all along the gorge to Lesnica. There is no corresponding path on the Polish side so the photos have all been taken from the Slovakian side, even if they represent part of the Polish Pieniny. Anyway, what do frontiers matter when there is so much natural beauty around?

I am a novice at this! Cant find out how to reply to your comment, so this will have to do: I have read all your postings about the Tatras. You take such beautiful pictures, that I am ready to move there sometime next week - or so.. :-)
Those are odd-looking rafts, but the ride must have been fun and the views are fantastic.
Wow, what brilliant photographs that lures all of our senses. Spectacular visions and lovely descriptions. Your keen insights amaze me. Red Monastary, Brother Cyprian's cottage, & the rafting were topnotch tips.
Cerveny looks absolutely stunning. The autumn colours do look very lovely. I enjoyed the tour. Thanks for sharing!
Another northeastern gem in Slovakia - more reasons to include the Vysoke Tatry and maybe rent a car!
What a beautiful region, Ewa. The autumn colours in your pictures are great!
Let's go back in time and I will live w/ the monks in the Red Monastary. I could study Astrology and tend the garden.
Another beautiful mountain area! The border rafting option looks really fine.
Oh, what wonderful scenery.
Wow, I've forgotten how beautiful Pieniny are :)
