Monkova Pol'ana - Monkova Mountain Glade

This is a nice walk from Zdiar along a path parallel to the ski-lift, that is, if you only reach the beginning of the Monkova Valley and then take the path to the right. Walking along a mountain stream, you reach a hotel where you could have dinner at a restaurant, but their menu did not look interesting when we were there so we didn't stop. Following the stream you come to a glade with a few houses. It's a charming place, perfectly quiet when the farmers are not using their electric log saws and with a stunning view of the Belianske Tatras. There are some rooms to let in those houses - you can put up there if you like. If not, take the path a little to the right and follow the line of the ski-lift to the main road. A nice walk and not too strenuous, unlike many in the Tatras.

From Monkova Mountain Valley on to Kopske Sedlo

This is a rather hard trail not to be recommended if you are not strong enough.
After all, when you have seen the view of the Spiss Region you can always go back to the Monkova Glade. Later on the trail becomes really steep, you may have to climb over boulders and it is a very long hike. But my husband has of course been there so here are the pictures he took.

If you feel you have got enough energy on reaching the beginning of the Monkova Mountain Valley, follow the trail uphill if only to see the wonderful view of Spiss, the region of Slovakia east of the Tatras.
