Traditional equipment for hauling fishing boats

Traditional capstan

This traditional man-operated capstan is still in use in Karwia to haul fishing boats out of the sea. The village now has only one or two fishermen left so no better equipment is available but, no matter how far from modern the capstan is, it seems to serve its purpose well.
