  • Favorite Thing: The streets of Stratford-upon-Avon abound in gorgeous Tudor half-timbered houses. The timber patterns on them are not always made up of straight lines, the most interesting ones have curves and form complicated designs. The house next to Harvard House is one of them, it is now the Garrick Inn, named so after one of the best known Shakespearian actors. To its left is the beautiful ornate house with Pizza Hut on the ground floor. I wish all Pizza Huts looked like this. In the other picture you can see the Shakespeare Hostelrie, also timber-framed and forming a long line of gables. Don't be misled by their sign to think it's a hostel, 'hostelrie' is an archaic or humorous word for an inn or pub, and the place is simply a hotel.

Excellent! As an English teacher, I long to see all of this, especially the Shakespeare Memorial. Stunning photographs of the Tutor houses, the Thatch-roofed cottages, Bravo!

When I was in Stratford many years ago, my then-ten-year-old son didn't want to go to the theatre, so we went back to our B&B and watched an exciting film on television. It turned out to be Shakespeare's Coriolanus. Your tips brought back nice memories.
