"Bergen - Norway's Pride" Bergen by evaanna

We only spent an afternoon and evening in Bergen. We would have seen more if we had found a parking space on the following day.
For instance, we didn't have the chance to see the museums or churches. The ones we saw were all closed. Like in other Norwegian cities, nobody thinks of the tourist from a distant country, who may have very limited time to do the sightseeing and may never have the chance to visit the place again. For some reason, everybody seems to think that all the tourist needs are souvenir shops and restaurants. They were all open and plenty of them, too. Yet, they are not what I shall remember Bergen for. And these are certainly worth remembering: Bryggen with its colourful wooden houses facing the sea, the houses high up on the hills, the charming narrow streets, the magnificent view of the city and the surrounding mountains from Mount Floyen, the harbour and the Fish Market. If you see Bergen once, you will want to see it again.
- Pros:Interesting architecture, lovely views, a lot to see
- Cons:Parking problems, early closing hours at museums and churches
- In a nutshell:Norway's pride

Charming small page of Bergen, I might consider that camping site in future trip to the area.
Another interesting town to visit.
Nice photos from your brief visit to Bergen. At least you saw Bryggen, even if the museums were closed.
Great tips on and views of Bergen, especially that impressive church portal! Also, it was interesting to hear your view of the Norweigen attitude toward tourists - something I had not considered!
At last I find one of your pages where I can pronounce its name! The Mariakirken has a very impressive entrance.
What a lovely page on my favourite Norwegian town! We stayed in Skotugn camping site too, only in a tent and in the morning we were soaking wet! I remember King Olav arriving on a boat and the red carpet...Must go back there and see more.
Nice updates Ewa = loved the stone church!!
I love old stones. Principaly those with an history. Thanks. Jean-Pierre , Belgium.
Hey, there it is already!:o) ~Mette
I'm starting to look closely at Norway -- I've never been there and will maybe try and go soon -- will certainly try and include Bergen -- nice page Ewa, thanks.
