"Runde - the bird island" Runde by evaanna
Runde Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 22 photos
Runde is a charming tiny island on the North Sea coast. Approached by a long narrow bridge and a dike amidst the sea, it is not easily accessible, but that only adds to its charm. Best known for the thousands of birds that nest on the cliff at the end of the only village there, it is a crowded place in June/July but much quieter later in the season. If you don't have to see the puffins, which you can reach only by boats specially provided for the tourists, visit the island at a different time of the year. The peace of the place will undoubtedly tempt you to stay there longer than you originally planned. Look at my travelogue to see more pictures.
- Pros:Peace and quiet out of season, a balsam for a city-dweller, fantastic views, nice walks on the cliffs
- Cons:Crowds of birdwatchers in June/July
- In a nutshell:A paradise for birds and people

Islands, cliff walks, boat tours, bird watching...what a great experience. Your tip about the campsite was outstanding.
This places reminds me of a village in Scotland we visited frequently. It too is tucked away under a cliff. But this is more attractive. Couldn't find the updates though
Another pretty spot in Norway. I would love it here with all the Bird Life, sounds lovely.
Looks like a beautiful place for bird-watching, and I like the King Arthur connection, even if it isn't completely true. The campsite sounds great -- a real bargain.
The view from Sandsoy is absolutely stunning. What a beautiful area this is.
How can you go wrong with a remote bird sanctuary island with rugged cliffs and a ferry ride! Beautiful photos of your experiences on Runde! We just returned yesterday from a similar spot, Forillon National Park at the tip of Quebec's Gaspe peninsula!
What a beautiful place, it looks so clean and fresh,
Wow, King Arthur got around a lot, didn't realise he had hidden the holy grail here too!
Another excellent page Ewa -- I'm really enjoying this virtual tour of Norway.
Surprised to see the word Midges thought only Scotland had these little pests
