"Torpo treasures" Torpo by evaanna

Torpo Travel Guide: 8 reviews and 21 photos

Torpo is a small village in Hallingdal boasting a most unusual treasure - a late 12th century stave church. Having seen a number of such churches in Norway, I find this tiny temple the most amazing of all. Anyway, see for yourselves...

The Torpo Stavkirke is indeed amazing that is has lasted for so long. The interior is beautiful. Also thanks for the story of St. Margaret.

Torpo is a strange name for a town (reminds me of torpid) but that stave church really does look unique.

Very interesting finding with that 12th century wooden church. Great info on St. Margaret.

I am amazed that a wooden building could survive so many centuries without burning down in a forest fire or rotting! Beautiful craftsmanship.

Looks very nice. Of course in Norway they charge for everything, including hot water, at list in Finland camp sites, the hot water is for free and unlimited :-)

Ewa, it's a joy to read your terrific tips because of the clarity of your written word and the use of brilliant photographs. This timber church, inside and outside, is an adventure in architecture.
