"Around Grebbestad" Grebbestad by evaanna

Grebbestad Travel Guide: 7 reviews and 14 photos

Grebbestad is a charming port just south of the Norwegian - Swedish border. The area is lovely with colourful wooden houses squeezed in among the rocks but it is also probably the most expensive place in Sweden. Actually, it is the accommodation that is so expensive, much more so than anywhere else in Sweden. The food is the same price as everywhere and, after Norway, the prices seem much more normal. We could, for instance, afford fish and chips at the local cafe, while in Norway we could only dream of it. Apart from the port, which in itself is an attraction for me, there are a few things to see in the area, some a real must see, like the Bronze Age carvings at Tanumshede.
We were passing that way again this year and found the solution to the accommodation problem - see my accommodation tip.

The harbour looks quite a pretty area, and I find the rock carving's interesting. A shame the Cabin was terrible!

That's a lovely lead photo of Grebbestad with beautiful light. Too bad the area is so expensive.

What a breathtaking introductory photograph. Fascinating about the rock carvings. Too bad about the information place and about the shape of the cabin. The natural scenery is beautiful.

What a charming place you have found! And these red ancient carvings look very mysterious and interesting. Very useful tourist trap tip also.

The carvings are impressive, so old. In a different way, they make me think of the Saharian rock art.
