"The Viking Village of Foteviken" Höllviken by evaanna
Höllviken Travel Guide: 8 reviews and 9 photos
Hollviken is a small village on the Foteviken Bay on the south east coast of Skane. It is worth a visit for one thing only - the 'Viking Village', where you can learn a lot about the Viking life and even... join the Vikings yourself.
We found the place extremely interesting, even if it lacks complete authenticity. My husband immediately noted, for instance, that the lady at the reception was wearing a watch. When he remarked on that, she quickly hid it from sight. The Vikings can't have had a cash register either. Still, it's 'signum temporis' - modern Vikings have to pay taxes so how else could they prove their income? Nor did ancient Vikings lock their houses for the winter - where would they go? Still, the present-day Vikings have been pampered by western civilisation. Going back to the harsh conditions for good might have been a shock for them. And where would they get their firewood from - there is no forest anywhere near the village? So go there in the summer when they are all there and the place is full of activity. You will enjoy yourself enormously.

The Viking Village sounds fascinating to me. I love that kind of stuff. You found a perfect little place to stay overnight too.
The viking village tour seems like a lot of fun whilst learning about them ;-)
Interesting tips on the daily lives of the Vikings! Our local paper ran a long article about the Vikings just this morning, because there is a new exhibition about them at the historical museum in Speyer. www.wikinger.speyer.de
I like very much your intro! This is a very interesting place that I would enjoy visiting and your page is excellent!
Interesting place! I might add it to my list for next summer as well :-) Thanks Ewa :-)

We're not too keen onthe Vikings in Ireland but an interesting page nonetheless :))
