Varberg deserves a break in your journey if only to see the 13th century fortress and the great views of the sea and the town that it offers. I am not too fond of all kinds of defensive constructions but we found the museum in the fortress most interesting.
In the 19th century Varberg was a well-known resort with its own baths. The bathhouse is still there, but for warmer days there are also many bathing and surfing places on the coast south of the town. There is a regular ferry connection between Varberg and Grena in Denmark.

Fascinated with the story of the Bocksten Man. Your picture looks like he is preserved where he was found, in the pete bog, but you did say he was now in the museum.
Thanks Ewa, the museum sounds very interesting :-)) I'll be in Sweden next summer (for a famous birthday, lol) and Halland's Län is one of my destinations :-) Ahh, murder and crime, I really like this :-)
Great page as your usual. Interesting fortress with a view! I like your tip on King Karl XII's button.
You are right!! Bocksten Man and the Tollund Man circumstances seem quite similar -- except the red, curly hair!! All Kind Karl XII's plight is interesting story as well. Great page!
Beautiful view from the Fortress. How sad about 'Bocksten Man', and yes how sad it is what man can do to each other.
"Killed by his own button!" That would make a perfect title for a thriller! A night in prison, the Bocksten Man, what a nice place! Excellent page!
Very interesting place and well described. look forward to more, So many of the bodies found in bogs whether Sweden or Ireland seem to have died gruesome deaths.
I have never heard of The Bocksten Man. I have not been to Sweden but think about it often; my great-grandmother was born there. Thanks for a nice page. Marcia
Hello Eva! A very good page about lovely Swedish town. I have very fond memories of our short stay there many years ago.
Great history here - loved the reference to red hair................
