What's Phi Phi Island fmous for? The spectacular Phi Phi Islands lie in the mouth of the Phang Nga Bay... Koh Phi Phi was made famous by the movie "The Beach" and although it was hit badly by the tsunami with many tragic losses it still has an overpowering charm...
Ko Phi Phi (pronounced ko-pee-pee) is actually two islands: Dramatically beautiful Phi Phi Don, with its long, soft-sand beaches and limestone cliffs rising from the sea, has grown into a resort offering both simple bungalows and larger hotels. Phi Phi Le, no less beautiful and only a short boat ride from its larger sister island, has no accommodations at all. |
| | Phi Phi Le - Where Maya Bay is.. Maya Bay, on Phi Phi Le, was the film set for The Beach, but the sweeping sandy crescent at Ao Lo Dalom (ao means “bay”), on Phi Phi Don, actually has more beach frontage.
Palm trees, warm blue water, and sheer cliffs form one of the most dramatic backdrops in the island world. You can't help but give in to a beach state of mind here.
Phi Phi Leh Island, with only 7 square kilometres the smaller one is more spectacular with their cliffs plunging hundred of metres into the sea. The concessions for harvesting the bird's nests in the island's caves, have so far excluded any habitation. |
Phi Phi Don - Where the crowd is.. Phi Phi Don Island covers 28 square kilometres and consists of two parallel running wooded hills, that are connected by a narrow sandy isthmus covered by coconut groves and several hotel buildings and rimmed with beaches on either side.
The southern Tonsai Beach lies deep in a bay with limestone cliffs on one side and wooded hills on the other side, while Lohdalum Bay has shallow water that makes swimming possible only during high tide. | | |
