Phuket Island is one of the most popular travel destinations in Southeast Asia and it has more than 20 scenic white sand beaches, crystal clear blue waters, coral reefs rich with sea life as well as dozens of lush neighboring islands.
Its wide choice of beaches caters to suit every taste and requirement of each traveller. The quieter beaches tend to be found towards the island's northwestern coastline, while the greatest concentration of hotels, shops and restaurants is located around Patong and stretches south towards Karon and Kata.
Since the devastating Tsunami of December 2004, Phuket has remarkably got back on its feet and is now as beautiful as ever. The locals whose livelihoods were cruelly disrupted by the tragedy invite us back with the famous warm and friendly Thai smile.
Overall, I do enjoy my holiday in Phuket but there are some hipcups during my trip that I'll include in the "Tourist Trap" tip.
One thing for sure, Phuket has become more beautiful now then ever after the devastating tsunami in December 2004.
One should not be afraid to visit this island and not to have thoughts such as "What if you see something that you shouldn't see there", "What if it happens again" etc... Which are the questions I got alot before I step my feet on the island..
Well, I am back in one piece now and I can say that it's an island worth visiting..
One of the activities that I really look forward to but was very disappointed..
Reasons being the fishes are not as many as I expected and mostly are the common ones... Maybe I'm not so lucky...
Furthermore, those day trips that I took up, didn't bring me to the good snorkelling area... Will comment more in my "Sports" tip..
- Pros:Clean beach, hot sun, clear water & lots of fun..
- Cons:Lots of cheaters.....

Thanks for the tip on tourist traps. I intend to rent a car and will be 1st time to phuket.... feel a little lost, bcoz I was told street names are in thai. Will think about renting from David as u suggested... but will be aware about tours
Great tips! I am looking forward to visit Phuket for the first time at the end of the year - will be diving at Similans.
