Kili: first impressions
You hear lots about the mountain before you get there, but it was only as we came into land at the airport that it finally hits you. Unlike Everest its not part of a range so the enormity of the task in front of you is immediately apparent.
It will take 5 days to climb and 2 to descend during which time I will lose a stone in weight and all feeling in the toes in both feet (which took approx. 4 weeks to get back to normal). The extremes in weather will also be quite pronounced: day 1 is a (max) 4hr walk through equatorial jungle, whereas summit day is an overnight trek of approx 12 hours past the permanent ice cap!
I have endeavoured to capture all the details of the trek and have put together a comprehensive packing list with what I had, what I would rather have had and what I didnt need
