Xi'an: shop till you drop. Xi'an was once the largest city in the world, the start and end of many trade routes. It is on a very fertile plain (loess, sand with clay), between hills on a river. I read it has been the capital of China longer than any other city in China, including Beijing. The city center is very busy, large shops, malls, but also very small shops in large halls. I now understand how important mobile phones are in China: there are hunderds and hunderds of sales point in the center. From the large, expensive ones to very small in basements.
We liked the Islamic streets, a bit like a bazar or souk. There is something for everybody. The food there was also very good. |
