| Rising sun, so this must be the east |
The river seems to flow the other way The first thing we noticed about Luxor was that the river Nile seemed to flow in the wrong direction: it was as if South and North had swapped. The Nile cannot be wrong, so it must have been us. We were going to stay on the Westbank, yet it felt as the Eastbank. Perhpas that is why the old Egyptian decided to build their temples here: to please ask the sun to rise, to rise at in the right sky. This awkward feeling didn't leave us and we stayed confused. Dazed and confused. |
| Setting sun, this must be the West. |
Too hot to handle During our stay it was very hot in Luxor, over 40C. We were told it is better to visit during winter time, yes, as if we had that choice! We started early and stopped visiting monuments around noon. After a hot lunch we went to sleep and after 17.00 we hit the road again. Night came fast at about 18.30. Visiting the temple of Luxor at night makes sense, as the lights are very good arranged and most of the hieroglyphes can be seen very good. |
