Everything was perfect at the The Palace. Whether you stay here or not, be sure to stop in to see the gorgeously restored and exquisitely designed dining room.
Unique Qualities: The Garden Court dining room is grand in every way. Graceful columns soar above marble floors towards a dome of stained glass, and the menu is as elaborate as the gold leaf sconces and mirrored doors.
The photo doesn't show the size of the room or the vast dome of hundreds of squares of stained glass. It's truly magnificent & represents the traditional San Francisco.

When I first visited SF in the 80's, my two friends and I stayed at the Westin St. Francis Hotel. It is a wonderful experience in luxurious, traditional San Francisco style. Whether you stay here or not, during your visit, walk in and look around the beautiful lobby and if you have the time and inclination, have some food or a drink in the very relaxing Compass Rose bar and restaurant. It's really a treat - expensive - but worth it if you love quality.

The Argonaut Hotel is in an historic building -- originally a fruit cannery built in 1907 in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf and is now a luxury hotel. It has red brick walls and bright and unique nautical decor. WiFi high-speed internet access is in all public areas and meeting spaces within the hotel, a broadband connection in the room and a keyboard and internet access via the flat screen television. You can play your own DVDs inside the room.
Whether you stay here or not, while at Fisherman's Wharf, you may want to stop in and take a look around.
Unique Qualities: Located within the Argonaut Hotel is the award-winning Blue Mermaid Chowder House, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Depending on where your room is, you'll have a view of the wharf and either the Golden Gate Bridge or Alcatraz Island. And the beds have extremely comfortable goose down comforter and plush pillows. The Argonaut's luxury is something you cannot find anywhere else at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf.

The York Hotel is a charming, comfortable place located on Nob Hill, a short walk from Union Square. The rooms are lovely, & the service is very good. They will make restaurant reservations and get theatre tickets, etc.
I haven't stayed at the York , but a friend of mine did and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been to the York several times & like the comfortable ambiance - small and nicely elegant.
Also, you can catch a show in the Empire Plush Room, a cabaret-style showroom and bar.
