My beloved home-village

My village

Welcome to St.Marien
St. Marien is more or less a typical Austrian village. It's located about 25km south of Linz - the capital of Upper Austria. Linz is the 3rd biggest city in Austria (If any city can be considered big here in Austria ;) )
St.Marien has about 4000 inhabitants, so it's not thaaaaaaat small. Since it's so close to the cities Linz, Wels and Steyr more and more people decide to move here. Within 10 - 30min per car you are in the towns and/ or at all the big shopping locations.
In the past years it has grown from an agricultural rural village to more like a suburban area.
Musikverein Jung St.Marien (Brass-Wind Orchestra

more than just a place to live

To me my village is my home. I love travelling and due to my studies I've also lived in Vienna for a few years, but my real home and my roots are here. We have an amazing village-community and there are many different organisations from football club, tennis, art, to orchestras.
The amazing thing about my village is that even though we only have 4000 inhabitants we have 3 orchestras with 30-50 memebers EACH. Additionally each orchestra has an own orchestra for kids .... some call St.Marien the secret brass and wind music capital of Upper Austria ;)

Not the typical place for tourists to visit

St.Marien, just like most other regular villages here in Austria are not the places most tourists decide to go to. You can't compare villages like St.Marien to places like St.Wolfgang, Bad Ischl, Vienna or any other major tourist spots. It's a place for people who wanna experience Austria in a different way, but usually it's more fun if you know someone there! (just as if you go to some non-tourist place anywhere eles in the world)

My great-grandfather, Josef Thalhuber (1847-1917) was born in Sanct Marien. He came to the U.S. in 1883, and settled in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Thalhuber family still lives in and around St. Paul. What a lovely place to be from in Austria!

My home place shares quite some features with yours - plus the problems of being the fastest growing community in Austria (I am sure your place is sharing some of the problems as well - I live in Telfs, 25 km from Innsbruck). Happy birthday!

Very nice photos and information about your home village -- I like the photos on your HP too, especially the winter ones.
