My ex-boyfriend's family has a yearly camping trip to...I don't even know what the beach is called. All I know is that it's after Rosarito, but before Ensenada. We camped on the beach and it was only $10. This is the hardcore stuff because there are no bathrooms or showers. There WAS a restaurant about 5 miles away that had a backyard with clean shower stalls, $1 buys you a few minutes of hot water. We went during Labor Day weekend so the beaches looked like small cities (if you've been to Pismo during 4th of July, you'll know what I'm talking about). We brought shovels for clam digging, and we also flew kites attached to fishing poles.

My ex-boyfriend had been talking on and on about some place that only served lobsters and margaritas and that these lobsters were gynormous. I said 'Prove it'. The meal took over 3 hours, and I still had enough to make a huge burrito for late night munchies. Huge lobsters, refried beans, rice, chips and salsa, flour tortillas, and fishbowl margaritas. Puerto Nuevo is heaven.

Puerto Nuevo is like a tiny village of shops and restaurants. You can find lucha libre masks here for about $30, bags of Mexican candy for $5, and warm ponchos and blankets for nights around the campfire.
