We lived in Portland for five years. We absolutely adore it there. But... had to venture off so we could have the adventure of living and traveling in Asia.
Portland offers so many things.... 1. We are the leader in microbreweries in America. There are so many micro brew pubs to enjoy and all are unique. 2. The Pinot Noir wine was founded in Oregon, just mins. from Portland. You can jump in a car and hit many many wineries on the weekend, just 30 mins. outside of Portlnad. 3. Lots of diversity which adds to a varied culture. We have restaurants ranging from Ethiopian to Southern American Barbecue to Vietnamese. 4. The coast is an hours drive away and the mountains/lakes are just an hour also. 5. Many many superb restaurants that thrive on the fresh seafood and fresh farm produce provided locally. 6. It is the most lush and green city that you may ever see! It is just beautiful. When I returned from living in Seoul I noticed how very lush it was. So many great things make up Portland...just go and enjoy! 7. Portland is very very handicapped friendly. There is wheelchair accessibility on all modes of transportation. |
| | Microbrew fest Every year there is a microbrewery festival at Waterfront Park, downtown. There are usually 70 or so beers from around the United States. You can sample beers such as Huckleberry Wheat or Chocolate stout, or a hoppy IPA. Many many to choose from. It is a very laid back time if you go in the afternoon. It gets rowdy and crowded at night. |
| | Columbia River Gorge This is a view just 5 miles outside of Portland. This is a long stretch that goes on for 3 hours along the river. There are picnic places along the way. |
