Kanchanaburi: The River Kwai Festival

by seoulgirl - last update: Mar 19, 2007

River Kwai Boat tour

We took a boat tour down the River Kwai. It was just us two. There is a minimum of 4 people but we just paid for 4 people. Thought it would be real relaxing to take a boat and see the countryside. Well, we went about a zillion miles an hour on this thing. And the sites he took us to are all about WWII which the place is all about. They had prisoners from around the world that worked on the railway and the bridge. They died of disease and starvation. The museum and the cave are old and pretty worn out. We hiked forever from the river to the cave. It is really built up for tourist along there but no one was there. It was like a ghost cave exhibit. Very odd. I started out the day all mellow and ended pretty stressed from the fast boat ride and all the death.

River Kwai festival

A huge light and sound show that is a must see. There were "missles" flying over your head. There were fireworks, lasers, fire, and a loud presentation. Really neat!
Feed the "little" baby elephant

Feeding the baby elephant.

They have little elephants come by the bars. You buy sugar cane to feed them. It's really neat. I really enjoyed it.

Cons:"Run down, tired and kind of ominous place."
In A Nutshell:"Sadly historical but very beautiful."
