I made my first visit to Chiang Mai in Dec 2004, although it was not my first visit to Thailand. I was told not to bother as it is a 'mini Bangkok' but wanted to see for myself if this was true. Chiang Mai is the gateway to the North of Thailand and using it as a base one can visit many places . It is much cheaper than places like Bangkok and Phuket. You are spoilt for choice with the number of restuarents and bars that are around. The night bazaar is a must for the the souvenier and bargain hunters!!!!!! |
| | Tours Many Tours are available from the multitude of tour agents in the town. I think that it would be hard to walk more than 50 metres without seeing tours advertised. I took five tours whilst I was there and will review them on my tips. It is also worth negotiating with a Tuk Tuk driver for a trip around the city. The organised tours that I took were to Doi Inthanon, The local Industries (this seems to be thrown in free when booking a day trip), The Golden Triangle, The Khantoke Dinner and a private hire to Doi Suthep and the Botanical Gardens. There are also many 2 or 3 day treks available for the more adventurous |
