Sidi Bou Said is the most enchanted place in Tunisia.
Its all white and blue and so similar to our alentejo region!!!!
Same architectural details inside and outside houses - the hiden small churches for defensive reasons, the stairs all over, lamps, patios, windows design, man and women separate divisions/customs, ceramics, pottery, terraces, flowers.....and evolved in the green/blues of mediterranean sea.
Tunisia was a most pleasant surprise. I felt caught by the past, by history, by crossed european/african cultures - same walled villages, all white, same patronage saints - St Louis, even town names - like Beja...meaning the same, with the portuguese one caming from non existing arabic sounds for its roman name translation pax julia...
Felt at home.
