"Traveller from India" harsha966's Profile
Finally after 3 years I got a chance to update my profile. So much has happened in last three years that it would be impossible to list all of it here. Like everyone else here on VT, I love travelling and I have only seen India and United States till date so I guess I am a rookie compared to a lot of other people on this site. I love the mountains but I also like water. Hence, the constant fight to balance my trip in such a way that I get to see beaches and mountains in the same trip. :)
I like to travel on my own and try to meet the people and feel the spirit of the place and I am sure most of the people here on VT also feel the same way. I think it is the only way by which you can see the "real" place and experience the local culture. Having lived all my life in big cities, very often I feel the urge to get away from this maddening city life and go to the countryside where life is still slow and peaceful. I prefer to go to the himalayas as it is so peaceful and quiet (as long as you avoid the touristy and popular places) and the people are really helpful and kind.
I guess a lot of you must have heard that india is a very unsafe and a difficult place to travel..but its not fully true. As with any other place it has its share of good things and bad things and as long as you are smart and sensible you will be fine and try to take the negatives with a pinch of salt.
Goa - Palolem, Vagator and Old Goa. (2004, 2006) - amazing trip. Palolem is the best beach. White sand and laid back atmosphere and the best part is that it is clean and not crowded for most part of the year.
Dharamshala - Been there 5 times already and its my favourite place. Very peaceful, quiet and beautiful. I met His HOliness Dalai Lama two years back and it was a magical experience.
Lot of other places in Himalayas: Kausani, Binsar, Bhimtal, Nainital, Manali, Kasol etc.
Jaipur, Ajmer and Pushkar, Rajasthan.
Agra - The Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. (2005, 2006)
Washington DC
Philadelphia
New York City
Chicago
Boston
Charlottee
Richmond
Atlanta
Tampa
Miami
Houston
Austin
My future travel plans include:
Andaman & Nicobar Islands- they are more beautiful thanany of these fancy foreign islands..its just that they are not marketed very well.
Europe - My next big trip will be to Europe. London, Paris, Brussels, Milan, Croatia, Serbia and Malta.
Australia and New Zealand - have a few friends there so hoping to go there in the next two years.
South America - I have some really nice friends in Rio and Lima. Hopefully I can go there some time soon.
